Fortunately, you don't need to pay a mechanic or an auto parts store clerk to change them. Replacing your own wiper blades is a simple, 10-minute job that requires zero tools. What You Need

• A new set of wiper blades: Check your vehicle's manual or use the fitment finder at any auto parts store to get the exact sizes (note: the driver and passenger sides are often different lengths).
• A thick bath towel: This is the most important tool to prevent a costly mistake!

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Protect Your Windshield

Before you touch the wipers, fold your thick bath towel and place it flat on the windshield directly underneath the wiper blades. Why? Once you remove the old blade, the bare metal wiper arm is held under high spring tension. If it accidentally snaps back down against the bare glass, it can instantly crack your windshield, resulting in a costly repair bill. The towel acts as your safety net.

Step 2: Raise the Wiper Arm

Gently pull the wiper arm away from the glass until it locks into an upright, perpendicular position. It should stay up on its own. If your car's hood blocks the wipers from lifting fully, turn your car on, turn the wipers on, and switch the ignition off when the wipers are mid-sweep on the glass to access them easily.

Step 3: Remove the Old Blade

Look at the joint where the rubber wiper blade meets the metal arm. Most cars use a standard J-hook style connector:

• Locate the small plastic tab or lever on the underside of the connector.
• Press and hold this tab with your finger.
• Slide the wiper blade downward (toward the car hood) to release it from the J-shaped hook, then slide it off the arm completely.

Step 4: Attach the New Blade

Unpack your new wiper blade. Make sure you are using the correct length for that specific side of the windshield.

• Slide the plastic joint of the new blade into the J-hook of the metal arm.
• Pull the blade upward (away from the car hood) until you hear or feel a distinct click. This ensures the blade is locked securely into place.
• Give it a gentle tug to double-check that it is firmly attached.

Step 5: Lower the Arm and Repeat

Gently lower the wiper arm back down onto the towel-protected windshield. Never let it snap down. Once the first side is done, move the towel over and repeat the exact same process on the other side.

Step 6: Test Your Work

Remove the towel from the windshield. Hop into the driver's seat, turn on your car, and use the windshield washer fluid to test the new blades. They should sweep across the glass smoothly, quietly, and without leaving any streaks. If they do, you are ready for the next rainy day!
